Step 1: Continue to write in journal
Step 2: Test the final product
I decided to make a candle as my "Tester" to see how it will melt. I took pictures to capture the moments:
Questions:
1. Did my candles reach my specifications, after changes had to be made? Yes I believe that my candles passed all the specifications that it needed, such as regarding the quantity and the scents. 2. Do my candles look aesthetically pleasing? I think I did a good job decorating the candles to try and make them age appropriate towards multiple age groups. 3. Do my candles work? From the tester candle I used, the candle burned at a good pace and was able to lighten up the room and look nice at the same time. 4. Am I generally pleased with the outcome of my candles? I am very pleased with how my candles came out and I'm glad that they look as good as they do. The amount of effort that I put into these candles really comes out in the final product. |
Step 3: Evaluate the success
As a reminder, these were the specifications:
DID I REACH THESE GOALS? (IN ORDER FROM ABOVE)
From the checklist above I was only not able to hit 2 out of 7 specifications and I'm very happy about that because this project could have been a complete disaster but in the end it came out well and even provided a bonding moment with my family.
- I want to make at least 4 candles
- I want 2 of the 4 to have different scents
- I want each one to look different from one another
- I want to make one of the scents apple because it is my favorite fruit and a very happy scent. i want it to be red to represent the traditional red apples.
- I want 2 of them to be in containers (whether it be in mason jars or actual candle containers)
- I want one of them to be a mix of 2 colors; purple and blue because they are my second favorite colors and since this project is supposed to be about me learning something, I'd like to have my favorite things
- .I want the other scent to be gingerbread because it will be a mold of a gingerbread man, i think the color will be beige or white depending on what i can find
DID I REACH THESE GOALS? (IN ORDER FROM ABOVE)
- I made at least four candles (I made 5)
- I made sure that at least two have scents (baked apple and cinnamon)
- Each looks different from the others.
- I made one of the scents apple. (the green one with 2 shades)
- I made at least two of them in containers (4/5 are in containers)
- I made one candle with two colors although I was NOT able to use the colors blue and purple because as I mentioned earlier the cost would have been too much.
- I was NOT able to make the last one gingerbread scented, cost too much and couldn't find the scent at the store, I instead mixed the baked apple and cinnamon scents together. I did not have a gingerbread man mold so i used a star mold instead.
From the checklist above I was only not able to hit 2 out of 7 specifications and I'm very happy about that because this project could have been a complete disaster but in the end it came out well and even provided a bonding moment with my family.
Step 4: How can you improve the goal
From the previous step I could have improved my candles by searching in other stores for the other scents and getting a gingerbread man mold to put the wax in. I also could have brought brown dry to go with the gingerbread man mold but as I mentioned previously it was out of my price range.
Another thing I could have done to make my candles better was to buy more colors to reach the purple and blue specifications for the candle. Instead I used blue, yellow and gold. These colors I had in candle form so I just melted the wax. If my price range was higher I would have bought all the necessary materials to ensure that the project would have come out perfectly.

Step 5: Impact of the solution on myself
I believe that the impacts on me were that I truly the act of making candles to be relaxing and I believe that I will continue to make them for myself and anyone who would want them in the future, friends, family and for gifts. I thought candles were a way to bring people together and I believe that this what I found out while making the candles because my mother watched me make the candles and we ended up making the rest together and this has turned into a bonding moment and I glad that I was able to share that moment with my mom while making the candles with all the necessary specifications.
I was hoping that the candles would be nice looking and I believe that I was able to reach this because, in my opinion the candles are beautiful. The only thing that I don't like about the candles is that I wasn't able to get all the colors needed and that the "Gold" color looks more brown than gold, but other than that I'm overall very excited about the outcome of all five unique candles.
